Best Restaurant Moment of 2009

Well, since I love food and I love to eat out this one is tough. One experience that stands out is going to Barrio in Bellevue. Everything we ate was AMAZING but the Crème Brûlée was seriously UNBELIEVABLE! Yes, I get very excited about good food.

Actually, just talking about it is making me crave it. Hmmmm...maybe when I get back home I can talk my sweetie into another date night? :)

Best Trip of 2009 (so far) : Ocean Shores!

We didn't take any BIG trips this year. Well, actually I'm on an airplane right now heading to Atlanta...but it's for work so it doesn't really count. And later this month Jason and I will be heading to Las Vegas to celebrate my 30th birthday which I am SO excited about. I have a feeling that trip might trump it for 2009 so that's why I've titled this 'best trip of 2009...so far'

In April we took a trip to Ocean Shores - a magical place in my book. I love being near the ocean, love the laid-back vibe of the town, and always feel relaxed when I'm there. Ocean Shores has been a favorite place for me since childhood and going back brings back many fond memories. I love being able to share that now with my children and hope we visit the Ocean at least once a year!

One of the best moments from the trip was going bowling! Jason did a good job of capturing the moment in the video. I also loved watching the kids explore the beach, eating yummy Seafood, and just simply spending time with my family.

Someday I want to own a beach cottage in Ocean Shores so we can get away and enjoy this magical place more often! But until then, I'll continue to enjoy our little getaways.

tired but getting there

The past couple of months have been exhausting, but in a good way. As I mentioned, I'm back to work part-time now and loving it! I really enjoy what I'm doing and, to be honest, I needed to get out of the house before I went insane. The kids love their nanny and baby Avery (their nanny's daughter) and everyone seems to be much happier.

So since jumping back into the workforce, my personal endeavors have taken a backseat but I'm excited to announce I'm getting "back in the game!"

I just wrapped up the Peekaboo Picks newsletter which hits inboxes tomorrow. More on our recent changes soon!

I'm also concentrating on getting my PR consultancy firm up and running, exciting news on that front soon too!

Did I mention that fall is my favorite time of year? Even more than January for me, it feels like a fresh start. Here's to new beginnings!

she works hard for the money

I made it through my first week as a working mama! To bring you up to speed, I recently took a job for an internet marketing firm and I'm loving it! I've actually worked with the owner of the company before, so the job is not completely new, but it is a young company growing quickly, and everything is very exciting!

I was lucky enough to find a fabulous nanny, my friend Myriah who is a stay-at-home mom with an adorable 1 year old daughter named Avery. I feel very fortunate. The kids had a great week and we all seem to be doing well with the new schedule. Plus I'm just working part-time so I still have plenty of time to play with my two favorite munchkins.

Hoping to catch up on my websites and blogging more next week. Working on some exciting changes so stay tuned!

working mom

I'm on a job hunt. I've decided it's time to find part-time work to help our family out financially. Yes, I know I JUST posted about wanting to start my own business, and I still do, and still plan to on the side. I'm supermom, I can do everything, right? :)

I've already started applying to a few places and am starting to line up interviews. Hopefully I can find the perfect situation for me that works for our family too.

Now it's just time for some serious life organization. If I'm going to make this all work, I better get to it. Look for updates soon!

Oh, and if any local readers know of a fabulous part-time position for an admin/marketing superstar like myself, keep me in mind!

sharing spaces

Thinking it's time to give the kid's room a little facelift. Ireland is about ready for a "big girl bed" and I will be happy to see the hand-me-down crib go buh-bye (it never really was my style but I couldn't say no to a free, expensive crib!)

Aiden is currently sleeping on a full-size mattress set, which was kind of a makeshift solution until we got their room figured out. But I think the time has come!

I'm thinking two twin beds, perhaps even bunkbeds. Quilts, a few fun accessories, and we're on our way! Loving this inspirational room via Garnet Hill. What do you think?

First Thomas Family Camping Trip!

We just returned from our first family camping trip and it was a great success! We had a very fun time with the kids and my sister and her daughter. There was sunshine, amazing scenery, swimming, good food, and smores! Can't ask for much more. We can't wait to do it again next year!

So...we're going camping. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. Sleeping in a tent with two kids, cooking outdoors, scary campground bathrooms. And then there's the whole diapers situation, and yes, they are both still in diapers.

But I'm hopeful it will be a fun trip and we'll make some amazing memories. I have great memories of camping as a kid and I can't wait for my children to experience it, and to experience it with them.

We don't actually depart until after the holiday weekend. So I think the plan is to give the tent, etc. a test run in the backyard tonight. Wish us luck!

getting my ducks in a row

Beyond the several projects I have going on currently, I have decided the time is right to launch my business. My dream is to start my own copywriting + PR firm, so that's exactly what I'll be doing come late summer/early fall.

This business is something I've been contemplating for a couple of years now. But I know the time commitment that comes with running a business, the investment I will have to make, and in knowing that, I've given myself some time to prepare, if you will.

I've read tons of business books and plan to plow through a few more before the summer is through. Most recently I've read The Boss of You and Making Work at Home Work, both of which I highly recommend.

So now it's all about getting my ducks in a row. The back bedroom must be transformed from storage room to office. I've got to figure out a work schedule that is manageable. Legal docs must be figured out, contracts created, and the list goes on.

It's all very exciting but a little scary too. My biggest worry is how I'm going to juggle motherhood with running a business. Any business owners out there that have advice for me I'm all ears!

I'd also love to hear any other book reccomendations and/or resources. Thanks!

bathroom love

We live in an old home that has the potential to be amazing. If time and money weren't issues, I could seriously go crazy transforming this place. Of course, time and money are limited, so I'm taking my lofty makeover dreams in baby steps.

Today my mind is on the bathroom. That's right, THE bathroom, we live in a one bathroom home. Crazy, I know! Our bathroom needs some major TLC...the walls are literally falling apart. But it is a pretty neat space to work with regardless. A black clawfoot tub, pedastool sink, and black and white checkered floors, make this space classic and inviting.

Before we can get to the major rennovation, I'm thinking I can spruce things up with a little bit of textile love. I'm especially loving the clean look of white, made interesting by texture details like ruffles and pleats.

LOVE these shower curtains (photos found on The Lettered Cottage) and am thinking about picking up a similar style at Target. Speaking of The Lettered Cottage, she's been sharing some inspirational bathrooms that are simply amazing. Definitely worth a looksie if you like that kind of thing.

Today I got a "tweet" (that would be a message on twitter) that I was chosen as one of Stiletto Woman Magazine's "Top 50 Most Amazing Women on the Web" I was super excited, to say the least, and honored to be included in such an incredible list of women.

This good news came at a great time, as I've been having a rough few days. I had all four wisdom teeth yanked a couple of days ago, and let's just say it's been a less than pleasant experience. A combination of pain + pain killers has put me in a constant foggy state, in fact, I'd be surprised if this post makes any sense at all.

starting over + about

I didn't choose motherhood, motherhood chose me. A surprise pregnancy with the man of my dreams thrust me into this role, a role I love beyond measure, even if the daily navigation is bumpy, at best. One baby + one marriage + one more surprise pregnancy (resulting in one more baby) is the reason this once Hollywood party girl gladly hung up her stilletos in exchange for the simple life in the country.

Now living in the small town home of my youth, in a fixer-upper craftsman (someday) home of my dreams, and staying home full-time with two crazy but irresistably adorable sprouts; I'm trying to figure this whole thing out. Luckily, I have an amazing partner who holds my hand, feeds me wine, fills our home with music, makes me giggle, and loves us unconditionally. We're in this together, the four of us, and we sure do love this life of ours!

My life these days is all about my kids, managing our home, inventing a way to work from home, and seeking balance. Some days are crazy, others are crazier. Hopefully The Novice Mom will help me make sense of it all.

As my way of organizing this chaos, I've set up a simple schedule for my blog. I heart schedules. You can expect random thoughts on the following subjects on the following days:

Mommy Confidence

I recently picked up the book "Mommy Confidence" by Kimberley Clayton Blaine. This quick read shares "8 Easy Steps to Reclaiming Balance, Motivation, and Your Inner Diva" Kimberley (aka The Go-To Mom) is not only a funny writer, she is very easy to relate to and offers advice without judgment. Her tips on everything from making life wish lists to "workin' it" in a swimsuit are great ideas for bringing a little more confidence back into the life of a busy mom.

Like any mom, I have my good days and my not-so-good days. Today just happens to be one of those not-so-good days where my confidence could use a little re-boot. Reading Mommy Confidence is a great reminder to cut myself some slack. It's all about finding balance...something I continue to work on each and every day.

Inspiration

The intent of starting The Novice Mom was to document my journey of being a stay-at-home mom and budding entrepreneur. My road to being an entrepreneur has been a slow one, but I'm still on it nonetheless! It's been over two years since I started Peekaboo Picks and next week I will be launching my latest project, Rain or Shine Finds. Rain or Shine Finds will be a trend-spotting site just like Peekaboo but will feature only local (Pacific Northwest) companies. I am beyond excited about it!
I'm thinking of this as the next step on my path to becoming an entrepreneur. I have the vision, it's just a matter of time. As many of you know, I have a real passion for the mom/baby/maternity world and have enjoyed getting to know so many inspirational moms who have started their own businesses. One being the fabulous Shelly from Plein de Vie. I'm hoping the launch of Rain or Shine Finds will connect me with even more cool local entrepreneurs.

10-10-10

My resolution for 2009 is to simplify my life. I'm trying to go "back to basics" in all aspects of my life. From the time I spend with my family, to my health and fitness, to Peekaboo Picks. I believe that extraordinary things can come from living a simple life.

My crave for simplicity is perhaps what drew me to 10-10-10, a new book by Suzy Welch. The name Suzy Welch might ring a bell for some of you, she is a regular contributor to O Magazine. Having lived a very busy life herself as an author, commentator and business journalist (not to mention MOM to 4 kids ages 14-19!) Suzy dishes up some simple advice for dealing with life's more difficult decisions.

The 10-10-10 concept is basically a way to think through the consequences of your decisions in a 10 minute, 10 month, 10 year time frame. This thought process can be applied to any decision you have to make, whether it be about love, work, family or anything else life might throw at you. How simple! How smart!

I will admit, I tuned out some of the chapters and stories shared in 10-10-10 that didn't really apply to me...at this point in my life. Instead, I focused on the chapters in the book about parenting and career decisions, things I deal with every day.

While I have chosen to be a stay-at-home mom for the time being, it wasn't an easy decision for me to make. It would have been so helpful to have used 10-10-10 to guide me through my thought process. Now that I'm focused on building a career from home, I will continue to use the 10-10-10 concept as I strive to find balance between having a successful career and raising my family with the values that are important to me.

What I love about Suzy's writing is that she offers her readers a tool (10-10-10) that doesn't frame things in black and white. It's an individual's values that will guide them through the 10-10-10 process, meaning results will be as different as people are. So even though staying at home with my children might be the right decision for me, it isn't the right decision for every parent. She even jokes about the ongoing "mommy wars" which we all know is a battle that will never be won! Using 10-10-10 can free you from guilt and any insecurities you might feel about your decision; something I think ANY mom could use!

I would definitely recommend this book to my fellow novice moms. It's a quick read and will leave you thinking more clearly about your life. You can read more about the book on Suzy's website: www.suzywelch101010.com

The hubby and I had a wonderful Valentine's Day. There were cupcakes. Beautiful, yummy cupcakes!

It started with a delicious soy latte and a single pink rose. Of course, he had to add in "Will you accept this rose?" because I'm currently addicted to watching The Bachelor. "Yes! Of course I will :)"

Next was a yummy sushi lunch. We found a new sushi bar that was questionable from the outside but we decided to give it a shot anyway. SO glad we did! The sushi was unbelievably good, some of the best I've ever tasted. This AMAZING roll was called "The Playboy" haha!

Of course, we had to have some green tea ice cream too!

Next up, a trip to the wineries for a little tasting.

All in all, it was a wonderful Valentine's Day with my sweetheart! Isn't he just adorable? Thanks for a great day baby!

Have you read this story book? It's beautiful...but I can't seem to make it through without breaking down in tears. Aiden pulled it down from the shelf the other night so I gave it another go, but no, I lost it on the second page. Even though I was crying I kept going, reading through tears and I kid you not...I looked down at Aiden and he was wiping his eyes like he was wiping away a tear!

Okay, so I'm sure he was just "pretending to be like mommy" but it was still the sweetest thing ever. I love my boy!

Over the course of these past two years I have met hundreds of amazing women. Many of these have developed into friendships, and for that I am truly grateful. As a mom of two young children, it's difficult to get out of the house to meet other moms, but through the blogging community and the wonders of Web 2.0, I feel pretty darn connected! And not only am I meeting other moms, but they are women who I connect with on many levels, sharing common interests, and sharing similar experiences. That's pretty awesome if you ask me!

The blogging community has become an integral part of who I am today, and I'm excited to get even more involved as The Novice Mom grows. So that's why Mabel's Labels NEEDS to send this novice mama to Blogher '09, don't ya think?!

Jillian Michaels, My New BFF

Today marks two weeks straight of working out every single day. Every muscle in my body is sore and I'm blaming it on Jillian Michaels. Her workouts are available "on demand" from our cable company so I've been giving them a shot. Whoa! This girl is tough!

She is super motivational though. She's always yelling things during the workouts like, "You gotta want it!" and "You gotta fight for it!" Seriously, though, just watching her with her rock-hard body is motivation enough!

I've only lost about 5 pounds so far (and I gained 5 pounds over the holidays so it's pretty much a wash) but I am starting to feel stronger and am excited to keep going! My goal is to lose another 25 pounds so I have a lot of work ahead of me. Looks like Jillian and I will be spending lots of time together in the coming weeks!

If Only I Could Sew...

Yes, I got a sewing machine for Christmas this year from my dear husband. And all kinds of accessories and fabric from my family too. But I haven't made it to a sewing class yet and I have no idea how to use the sucker! Hopefully I'll make it to class soon so I can get on making some of these projects I have floating around in my head.

If I could sew today I'd make a sweet little red dress for Ireland for Valentine's Day. But since I can't, I might have to scoop this one up from Three Lovelies. Isn't it darling? I love it!

Oh, and while I'm there...I might have to pick this up for me!

A little on Love

Valentine's Day is coming up, and while I'm not a die-hard when it comes to celebrating, I do think it's nice to have a day dedicated to showing the people we love that we really do love them. I know, I know, we should show our love EVERY day, but let's face it, life is hard sometimes.

I think I'm pretty good about showing my love to my husband daily. After the kids go to bed we enjoy just hanging out with each other, talking about life or even just watching television. We also "chat" online throughout the day...not obsessively or anything...we just check in with each other every so often. We are getting better about making time for date nights too, which is a lot of fun! Now, if I can just talk him into seeing Confessions of a Shopaholic with me that would be perfect! haha

Anyways, I just feel lucky to have a nice husband who loves me and who I love very much. It makes life so much sweeter (and easier to handle when times get tough)!

We're trying to think of something fun to do to celebrate Valentine's Day this year. Anybody have suggestions? What are you doing to celebrate? Staying in and watching a movie? Getting all dressed up and hitting the town? I need some ideas!

Overdue, Library, Books

Is it just me or is anyone else wondering what happened to January? I for one hit a rough patch at the beginning of the year. We had some horrendous weather here which resulted in me staying cooped up in the house WAY too much and going a little crazy. But I'm happy to announce I've snapped out of it, I've gotten a little sunshine, gotten back into a regular exercise routine, and am feeling "normal" again.

So yes, this blog post is a little overdue. But the good news is you didn't miss much! Some of our family highlights in January included a trip to Woodland Park Zoo and the opening of our town's new library (photo above).

As I type this we are in the process of redesigning Peekaboo Picks. There's still much work to be done but so far I'm loving it!

The Year of Change

We heard the word over and over this election season: change. Change we can believe in. Change we need. Yes we can [change]! Now that the election is over, and the economy has gone down the toilet, I for one am ready for change! A little more change in my pocket would be nice too.

And while I'm confident President (Elect) Obama truly will be the change this country needs, I'm also thinking about the changes I will be making personally in 2009.

As mentioned in a previous post, I'm hoping to change my perspective in 2009 when in comes to being a SAHM. I never thought I would be asking my hubby (er, I mean Santa) for a sewing machine for Christmas, become a regular at bunko nights, or be this excited about going to story time at the brand new library. But what can I say, things change.

Next year I'll be making some changes to Peekaboo Picks in hopes of remaining relevant in the oversaturated baby industry, to bring more of my personal influence to the magazine, and well, simply to keep it fresh and fun as I have a tendency to get bored with it.

I'm also launching a new site in January! I've been toying with the concept for a couple of months now, and I've decided it's time to make it happen! I'm in planning mode now, working on the site design and ironing out the details. So stay tuned...

And then of course, there is The Novice Mom. This is where all of these changes will be documented on an (almost) daily basis. Yes, 2009 will be the year of change and I'm looking forward to the journey! I hope you'll join me.

It's the Little Things

While browsing a few of my favorite blogs this morning, I noticed a common theme - little things. Whether it's capturing that first smile or cleverly displaying their latest sewing creation, the women I most enjoy reading in the blogosphere have a knack for capturing the little things that make life so special.

Here's a little thing that made me happy today. No, it's not my creation, I wish! I found it at a cute Etsy shop, Elsie Marley. How fun would it be to be able to sew one of these adorable diggers for Aiden and Ireland. Inspiring!

Plans to Go Public

Slowly but surely I have started sharing The Novice Mom with family and friends. But for the most part I have kept this here blog under wraps. "Why?" you ask with unyielding interest (haha) Well, to tell ya the truth, I wanted a space all my own. I know, that sounds silly (that's what a blog IS), but with my other blog turned website/magazine becoming more and more a public commodity (which is fabulous, don't get me wrong) I wanted to get back to ME. Not that I don't love Peekaboo - and do infuse much of my personal opinion into the content - but it's just not the same as having a personal blog. So I guess this is mine. My personal space all about me! Have you stopped reading yet?

Since our family blog has evolved into Thomas Family TV, I'll also be posting some family moments here.

But really, The Novice Mom is just my way of keeping tabs on myself. To keep me accountable to all of the dreams and desires I have inside of me. My way of not forgetting, but rather vocalizing, the goals I have for myself and for my family.

I do have plans to "go public" with The Novice Mom at some point, which perhaps is why I've been posting more regularly so there will be more content to filter through when I decide to bear my soul to the world.

As for now, for the very few who are reading, I hope you are enjoying learning more about this novice mama.

Before and After

With the hum of thankfulness still in the air from Thanksgiving, my thoughts have turned to my gratitude for a healthy body. This year I delivered a baby, my second one via c-section. Anyone who has been pregnant and given birth can testify to this; the body is a miraculous thing. Just watching the transformations as your body grows another human being and then seeing the fruits of your labor when your little one arrives is incredible. So I'll start by saying how thankful I am for this body of mine and all that it can do!

With that being said, I have been feeling rather unhealthy these days, and I'm hoping to change that. And yes, I'm talking about losing weight, but that's just a small part of it, a benefit really. What I'm most desiring is to improve my overall health. From my teeth to taking a daily vitamin to yes, my weight, which currently is a number which shall not be named.

Lucky for me (and another thing I am extremely grateful for) my mom watches the babies on Tuesdays. So with a whole day to myself today I hopped on the treadmill AND had a 2 hour intense cleaning at the dentist. The dentist I'm obviously not planning to make a daily habit but I'm hoping the treadmill will stick. It sure feels good to break a sweat (even if it did send me running to the bathroom feeling like I was going to throw up afterward).

I'm sure I'll be blogging more about my quest to get healthy in the weeks and months ahead. Who knows, maybe I'll even get brave enough to post a before and after...but I wouldn't hold your breathe on that one!

Just Another Day in Paradise

It's been one of those days. It is Monday, after all, not to mention the Monday after the Thanksgiving holiday. The house is a disaster with boxes and Christmas decorations strewn about, intermingled with toys - toys everywhere! Oh how I despise little plastic toys.
I'm behind updating Peekaboo, but keep getting an error when I try to post: no more memory. Hmmm, that can't be good. Guess it will have to wait until my Tech in Shining Armor gets home tonight.

I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with too much to do and no time to do it and all I want is a little "me time" which there has been far too little of lately. Ahhh, the sweet life of being a mom.
And on top of it all, my children refuse to nap. Just another day in paradise :)

Design on the Mind

I've always loved design but lately I've been really obsessing about it. I've been reading lots of blogs and getting super inspired! So I've made a few resolutions for 2009...

1. Learn how to sew. I'm yearning to make drapes, duvet covers, and throw pillows from vintage fabrics. I want to sew Ireland little dresses and make monster dolls for Aiden. So step one, learn how to sew. (image via www.prettylittlethings.typepad.com)

2. Start shopping thrift stores and flea markets for furniture and decor. Our house has such charm and whimsy - I don't want to fill it up with Ikea! I'm craving mid-century modern mixed with vintage. Classic pieces with a modern twist. Pops of color in funky accessories. Time to get shopping! (image via www.mycakies.blogspot.com)

3. Create a space just for me. I need an office in our house, somewhere I can go to feel creative. I'm thinking something like this. (image via www.droozstudio.blogspot.com)

5. Bake. Okay, so this doesn't have a whole lot to do with design, but I'm considering it part of my 2009 creative makeover. I'm not much of a cook, and probably never will be. But I do enjoy baking and who couldn't use a few more cupcakes in their life, right? (image via www.bakerella.com)

Dedicated to the Cause

Yikes, guess I'm not as great at blogging as one would think! Jason gets on me all the time that I don't update our family blog, and I feel bad about that. I need to update more often, take more pictures, and be better about documenting this very special time in my life. But here's the honest truth. In the last couple of weeks I have finally come to terms with the fact that I'm a stay-at-home mom. I'm a SAHM...who would have guessed?! I've been fighting that title for so long, that it feels strange to finally embrace it.

But I am embracing it. Because the truth is, as much as I want to be a WAHM (work-at-home mom) I've got to get this mom thing down first. So here's the deal. I've been shutting down the computer more, doing the dishes everyday, and keeping my house somewhat (gasp) clean and orderly. I make Aiden breakfast. We've been practicing his numbers more and watching television less. I'm thinking about cooking and contemplating a weekly meal plan. Heck, I'm even going to my first Carnation Mom's Night Out this week...I must be a SAHM!

And you know what, it feels good. I actually really enjoy being a mother. Not that I haven't always enjoyed being a mother, but I'm almost to the point where it's enough...almost.

Really, I've just enjoyed being in the moment more with my family. And I am SO SO SO excited for the things we have coming up in the near future.

I've been able to take a step back from everything...all of my lofty ideas...and have realized that I just want to be the best mother and wife that I can be. And as for my career aspirations? Well, that's a whole other blog post altogether.

So good things are happening with the Thomas fam. Most importantly, love is overflowing in our little house...

but no more babies...

for now. :)

Where are you going with this?

My mind is a constant mosh pit of ideas. Running an online magazine and being so wrapped up in the whole mom entrepreneur world, I'm constantly thinking up business ideas, marketing concepts, and plans to take over the world. Okay, maybe not the world. But seriously, despite having the occasional mommy brain, it seems my mind is generally set to overdrive. I truly wish I could just be content with where I'm at now and focus on the task at hand. And in someways, I've come to that conclusion. I've decided that instead of investing my time in thinking up all these new ideas, I just need to focus on what I've started. To improve upon and take advantage of the amazing opportunities my life has afforded me so far.

So here's where I'm going with all of this. I've scrapped other goals to focus on my online magazine and attempt to make it profitable. The point now is to establish myself in the "mom" industry and then, when my kids have grown a bit, perhaps once they're both in school, I will actually have the time and resources to pursue some of these other goals.

For now, my number one priority is raising my two beautiful children. I love being able to stay home with my kids, even if it means giving up other luxuries. As everyone knows, being a mom is a full time job. And though pursuing my career goals excites me, I'm not sure I'm ready to take on the overtime.

Delusions of Grandeur

If you were a fly on my wall, watching me change diaper after diaper in yesterday's sweats, you would hardly believe this novice mom suffers from delusions of grandeur. As you buzz around my house, you're amazed at the amount of dirty laundry littered from one room to another and you can't quite get over the distinctive smell of poop. You notice the stack of bills on the dining room table, catching a glimpse of a red overdue stamp. "How," you wonder, "could this scattered mom think she's anything more than a harried housewife?"

I may have delusions but I'm certainly not delusional. I know my life is messy right now, wrapped up in the well being of my two babies. I know the reality of this post baby belly, pit stained, under showered mama being anything beyond a stay at home mom in Small Town, America might seem far fetched. So I suppose this is where the delusion comes in. Because even though it might not seem too fabulous from the point of view of a fly, I'm convinced my life is meant to be, and will be, hailed as fabulous from moms across the globe.

If we believe in ourselves enough, can our dreams become our reality? Does vocalizing our dreams bring them any closer to becoming true? I'd like to think so.

My dream is to achieve success and recognition for my work. To pave a new path for mothers who desperately desire to stay home with their children, while earning money and a sense of career accomplishment at the same time. My dream is to be the spokesperson for this new approach to motherhood, after all, I will have written the book - The Novice Mom.

I envision myself venturing out on an extensive press circuit, my entire family in tow. My publisher signing me to a four book deal. Months of every year spent in Maui, working from my laptop, with clients none the wiser that I'm sipping on a Mai Tai, poolside.

But mostly, I envision my life a lot like how it is now. At home, with my children, and yes, even some days in my sweats (though hopefully sans the post baby bod). I might be delusional, thinking this way of life could be passed off as fabulous. But if that's the case, I'd rather be labeled naive then believe my life is anything less.

Lost

I once had a blog. It was only a few years ago, though sometimes it feels like a lifetime ago. I was single, living in Hollywood, lonely, reckless, and lost. I wrote candidly about my dating (or lack thereof) mishaps, my long to meet Mr. Right, and how despite living the fabulous life of a single gal, inside I was miserable and wondered, "there's got to be more than this!"

And then, in what seems like a blink of an eye, I met Mr. Right. Three months later I was pregnant. A month after that, Mr. Right and I retreated to the beach, trying to escape Hollywood while at the same time keeping it at arm's reach. We fell even more in love and when our son was born, my world forever changed. There was more to life than late night parties and a closet full of shoes, and I was holding him in my arms.

Fast forward two years and I'm now a mother of two beautiful children, living back in my hometown(worlds away from Hollywood), with my husband (Mr. Right) and undeniably happier than I've ever been in my entire life. Somewhere along the road, from Hollywood to homemaker, the confessional style blogging stopped (admittedly, my life was dramatically less scandalous) and in it's place came blogs about first steps, nursery bedding, and breastfeeding. Ironically, I was no longer lost in my life, and yet, in my writing, I was nowhere to be found.

It seems, when one is content with their life, there's really not much to talk about, now is there. Yet despite being challenged with the relentless writer's block known as happiness, I am attempting once again to start a blog. This blog will be my attempt to find myself again, through my words, through hopefully one day discussion, and through the cathartic experience that is blogging.
